    As a family physician, I recommend chair yoga, a LOT. As we ge, we lose strength, flexibility, and balance. And yoga addresses – yup – all three: strength, flexibility, and balance. I like chair yoga in particular, as there are really no contra-indictions to it. And since there is no special equipment you must have to do your workout. You need a chair, and a pair of shoes (or non-slip sox), so there’s no excuse to skip your routine because you are away from home traveling or visiting.
    It’s all about staying independent and healthy at home, avoiding falls and fractures, which are the beginning of the end for many of us, some day. This simple habit puts some day further into the future!

    I have been doing chair yoga for a couple months now. Yes, I use an app that I have to pay for but I tell you what, this has toned me and I feel stronger than ever. I will definitely look into the free options but I am really happy and can do this!

    Some libraries offer free sessions of chair yoga. I’ve done the virtual class, which my library offers two or three times a year. Probably one class is enough to let you know if you want to pursue in-person classes or other free options out there.

    The Chair Yoga for Seniors app does not appear to be feee. There is a free 3-day trial, but after that there is a charge. Is there something that I need to do?

    I have been doing chair yoga for 17 days straight. I feel great. It was free for the first 7 days but then it was $39.99 for one year subscription and you can try other exercise plans that they offer. I went through Lazyfit. If they are not challenging enough I do it a second time or I do another session in the afternoon. I like the workouts. I have arthritis and some neuropathy in my feet as well. If you want they even have nutrition tips/meals you can do. I would recommend chair yoga.

    I started Chair Yoga at the YMCA after encouragement from a friend after my stroke. You cannot believe how much it helped me! I started with my walker and/or cane, progressed to walking without wither and am now able to do my walking daily. It was a blessing for me! I have missed about a month and a half due to hurricane and being so busy —
    and grateful that I can be busy again thanks to Chair Yoga. (The YMCA Chair Yoga is a Silver Sneaker Class. If tu have Silver Sneakers, they also have on-line classes.) Jackie
